Chippewa River Boat Landing to Mt. Simon
We will be starting from the ‘Chippewa River Boat Landing‘ just South of the Main St. Bridge in Chippewa Falls. We will meet at 10am and shuttle vehicles and then go down the Chippewa River to Mt. Simon. This will also be a one-way paddle. Disclaimer: It may get shallow at times during the first part of the paddle. It is imperative paddlers wear footwear that will allow them to get in and out of their kayaks easily without loosing footwear. It can be a bit rocky.
Dells Pond - Mt. Simon Park
Registration not required, but please plan on being ready to launch at 6:30. Life jackets required.
Member meeting to be held after the Social Paddle. Monthly meeting will strive to last just 30 min. No chit chatting! We will get to business -- lots to talk about. Welcome to all of our new members!
Two-Day Chippewa River/Camping Trip (June 9/10)
Trip Co-leaders: Rebecca Snyder and David Lombardo
Trip Overview – If you’ve ever been interested in river paddling and camping on the Chippewa River as it enters the Mississippi River, this is a good trip for you. The rivers play a big role in our country’s early history and still play a role in today’s modern commerce and recreation. We will paddle the Chippewa River for roughly 90% of the trip and the remaining portion on the Mississippi. This might be a good trip to try your skills and become more familiar with longer river paddles.
Dates: June 9-10 (Friday-Saturday)
Meet at the put-in landing at 0930 with a push time by 1000. We will mobilize from Wabesha no later than 6 pm on Saturday.
Basics:
Paddle from Hubbard’s or Tyrone’s Landing, both upstream of Durand, WI (4 or 7 miles, respectively) and take out at Wabasha, MN. The trip distance is about 25 miles. Expect to paddle 12-15 miles each day.
Primitive overnight camping on a sandbar. You will be required to carry your camping gear and cathole gear in your kayak/canoe.
Food – some flexibility here and this may be dependent on the person. Minimally, breakfast is on your own. There is opportunity to eat in Durand and Wabesha. Stay tuned.
Water – with planned stops, you should be able get potable water or carry enough for the trip. Wabesha has a public restroom if you care to shower at the end.
Additional stops (e.g., Durand and National Eagle Center in Wabesha) will be incorporated into the trip.
Stay tuned for more details. Please feel free to reach out to me at becannsnyder@hotmail.com if you have questions.
310 River Ave S, Prairie Farm, WI 54762
Meeting location and more details to follow.
The Hay River is a tributary of the Red Cedar River in northwestern Wisconsin in the United States. It is about 50 mi (80 km) long. Via the Red Cedar and Chippewa Rivers, it is part of the Mississippi River watershed.
The Hay River begins at the city of Cumberland in Barron County, where it flows from Beaver Dam Lake. It flows generally southwardly through western Barron and northern Dunn Counties, past the villages of Prairie Farm and Wheeler. It joins the Red Cedar River in Dunn County as part of Tainter Lake at a settlement of the same name.
Upstream of Wheeler, the river collects the South Fork Hay River, which rises in southeastern Polk County and flows south-southeastwardly, past the community of Connorsville.

South Kawishiwi River (#32) entry point, BWCA
From Curtis Ray: I have secured a permit for Friday June 23 at the South Kawishiwi River (#32) entry point, it is a short distance out of Ely Minnesota. we will travel to Ely on June 22 to get started on June 23 on the water. I‘m inviting anyone that has gone before or never have been there, to join me. It would be a great opportunity to enjoy the Boundary Waters! We will have a few portages, river paddling and a few lakes, and there are some great campsites to enjoy as well. We will have time to fish and explore the area on our 4-5 day trip. When we get our group together (up to 6 people) we can decide more on the planned route and schedule.
https://www.lostcreekadventures.org/symposium
Sea Kayak Symposiums are a great way to get jazzed about paddling. If you‘re growing, you‘re having fun. If you‘re having fun, you‘ll want to keep paddling. New to expert, it doesn‘t matter. When we‘re here we‘re learning together. Visit the website for details, costs and schedule. There are some things that visitors can attend for free.

Lake Wazee Recreation Area
The Wazee Lake Recreation Area is Jackson County‘s newest and largest County Park. The focal point of the 1300-acre recreation area is Wazee Lake. The lake is 146 acres in size and is the clearest and deepest inland lake in Wisconsin. Wazee Lake has become the most popular scuba diving site in the Midwest, attracting more than 1000 divers annually. The lake is non-motorized to ensure protection of the pristine water quality, and to promote a "quiet" recreational experience.
