Hi all,
I am trying to get a tentative read on the level of interest for the new format Rookie Rendezvous. For those who are unfamiliar with the event it was traditionally a weekend of camping and paddling that was exclusively aimed at sea kayak activities. It typically involved a 2.5 mile crossing to Sand Island and the Sea Caves as well as a Meyers Beach Sea Cave paddle and/or an out and back paddle around Romans Point near Cornucopia. This year, in addition to the sea kayaking activities we will be adding outings that will be open to all (same requirements as any Wednesday social paddle). This will include Bark's Bay and some shore paddles on Lake Superior that will be determined by wind, weather and wave action. (paddler safety is always a high priority on this trip).
Tentatively we have sites 40-44 at Little Sand Bay campground for 3 nights of camping July 13-15. These sites can accommodate 14 tents. We are thinking of capping the participant max at 20 but if there are indicators we have greater interest than anticipated we can adjust accordingly. However, camp sites book quickly this time of year so no guarantee more sites will be available.
Participants are expected to be self sufficient as far as gear and food but don't hesitate to inquire about borrowing gear. We have helped outfit members in the past. Can't make any promises but if gear, especially paddling gear or tent is an issue, its worth inquiring.
Cost per participant is $35. This includes guidance and a tent site (the good company is free...and if we have a budget surplus so is the firewood)
I'm sure I've left some details out of this post...so please don't hesitate to ask questions.
