Rookie Rendezvous (plus)
Author Last Post

Update! My husband Dale and I are coming after all! We'll be in site 17 with our RV. I won't be doing the crossing but look forward to seeing everyone.

I'm interested in jambalaya too - thanks!

Let me know if there's anything I can bring for it.

Yes! Count Steve and me in. Question--are we planning to do potluck on any of the nights?

I am making jambalaya for Nancy Yost, Jennie Leithen and myself on Thursday. If you are coming on Thursday, and would like jambalaya, let me know! Just as easy to make it for 20 as it is for 3. Happy to do it, so please respond I you want some.

Anyone have a paddle float I can borrow for the Rookie Rendezvous?

If I have arranged to borrow a sea kayak for the Rendezvous, can I assume it has a spray skirt? If not, does anyone have one I can borrow? I couldn't figure out how to post so I'm replying.

Spot open! I am going to have to cancel. My spot is open if anyone is interested in joining the group. I let Rob know, so if you are interested send him a message. Health and family issues, it's going to be a great trip. I hope someone picks it up, sorry I can't make it. Ruth

Re: Rescue check offs- I think the 6/21 and 7/5 social paddles are ones where wet exits and rescues can be practiced. The island on lake Wissota and the beach at Riverview are spots where rescues can be practiced and checked off. These are skills that are desirable for all paddlers, Lake Superior or not!

As Rob has said several times -- there are sea kayaks within the club. I have at one extra sea kayak and Rob may have one or as well. I believe Stephe Connelly, Peter Strand, and Danielle have sea kayaks they may loan out for this trip. Please make contacts to see if you can borrow something if you want.

Rob has also mentioned previously that they will work to accommodate anyone who can't make the scheduled training sessions.

I have been thinking the same thing Sonia. I don't think it'll work for me this year. I'm going to take my name off.

Pretty much same reasons, also a family camping trip the next week.

I have registered for the Rookie Rendezvous, but was planning on renting a kayak which now seems too difficult. Also, am unable to attend the Wazee training day! I am thinking I will bow out altogether, but if someone has a kayak I could borrow for the weekend and if there is another class opportunity I will reconsider. Thanks!

Hi PWP,

Just a little FYI or PSA, my good friend Megan is guiding again this summer for Lost Creek.  If you want a

very talented and experienced guide, you should request Megan.

Peter Strand

Ruth, thanks for checking on rentals. We decided just to do a tour with the Lost Creek group that Saturday, to save money and hassle, it’s only $75 for a half day. That will be great, but we will miss the chance to be with the group.

We booked tent site 46 at Herbster Campground so maybe we can see you all Saturday evening at the campground.

Have fun!

Janis

Hi I just did some research about renting kayaks/gear. The two companies are Lost Creek Expeditions 715-953-2223 and Trek and Trail 715-779-3595. Both require a 3 hour class to rent boats. Lost Creek said our classes may apply to some of it but would have to have the curriculum and so forth. Also, due to county restrictions, they can no longer deliver/shuttle boats for people. Lost Creek is in Cornucopia. Rates to rent boats are 70.00 a day for boat/wet suit/gear plus 65.00 for class. Both have boats available at this time.

Renting is looking expensive and like a big hassle to be honest.

Response to the inquiry about interest in this event was positive. The campsites are reserved and registration will be open on Monday, April 3rd. The event is presently being edited so it will not appear on the calendar until Monday.

Thanks to all who responded. It is a considerable investment for campsites so it is very helpful to be able to have even a tentative read on level of interest before we commit.

Looking forward to this event and the upcoming paddling season (in spite of watching the blowing snow out our front window).

Hi Erin...

haha - fixed. You should be shown as Rob Zich going forward.

Hi

This is Curtis Ray and I would like to plan on attending.

I am excited about the Rookie Rendezvous! I would like to do the Superior paddling, will need to find a sea kayak and some gear to borrow/rent. We have an RV, I better get a site booked. Count me in, my husband will probably come camp, we love it up there.

I would like to attend.

Ron Hon

I am hoping to join you this year!
