Wed, Sep 7; Travel to Duluth, then up the north shore to Grand Marais, and finally up the Gunflint Trail to Tuscarora Lodge for Wed eve bunkhouse stay.
Will travel up at relaxed pace with plenty of time for exploration & meals at great area restaurants.
Thu, Sept 8; Up at dawn. Put in near Tuscarora Lodge. Paddle & portage to Long Island Lake
Fri, Sep 9- Sun, Sep 11; Can base camp on Long Island Lake & day trip, or pack up & move camp
Sun, Sep 11; Reverse route back to Tuscarora
This is a level one trip. We will be traveling by canoe. Canoes can be rented at Tuscarora if needed. The trip will be physically demanding. We will be portaging packs & canoes over terrain that can be challenging (Boulders, roots, etc)
There will be pre-trip meetings to discuss; gear, meals, canoe technique, weather prep, expectations, route, BWCA regulations, costs & more
