What is this?
This is an intro trip with island camping. We will be camping at the Sand Island Group Site A, it is a 3-mile crossing from the mainland to Sand Island. Really nice sea caves, Sand Island Lighthouse, light hike, explore history. Second day we could paddle to the sea caves in the morning light, then on to Raspberry Island lighthouse with a stop on York Island. York is a great beach. Paddle back to little Sand Bay on Sunday.
Lake Superior waters are dangerously cold with an average water temperature of 42F. The threat of hypothermia is real all year. For safety purposes all participants will be required to have a proper sea kayak and wear a wet suit or dry suit for thermal protection. You will also need a pfd, spray skirt, and any other safety gear with you.
