Wausau weekend - June 15-
Author Last Post

For anyone that is not familiar with the Ross Ave/Babl Ln intersection. You can put in 5700 Babl Ln, Weston, WI 54476 as the address and it will bring you to the launch spot. There is a small parking lot with about 8 spots (3 larger spots for trailers). If the parking lot is full, you can always park on Babl to unload any kayak/gear.

Bill and I are here in Wausau already. Let us know if you want to get together for a pontoon boat ride or dinner or both!!! Can’t wait to see you.

This is copied from an earlier post re camping. Hope it helps.

Kevin

Details on Wausau weekend, as promised: On Saturday, June 15, we are paddling the Eau Claire River. This is a 6.2 mile stretch, which should take between 3-4 hours with a break. Meet at 12 noon in the Village of Weston, intersection of Ross Ave. and Babl Lane. There is a parking area with porta-potties to the east, and the Eau Claire river is just to the north. After we get the kayaks off the cars, we can shuttle cars to the end point at the Drott St. Landing, approximately 6 miles. away in Schofield (adjacent to Wausau). Bring snacks and/or lunch if you think you will be hungry; there are many opportunities to stop for a snack/bathroom break. After kayaking, Bill can take us for a pontoon boat ride/cocktail hour on Lake Wausau followed by a barbecue hosted by Bill and me at his house (2207 Mount View Boulevard in Wausau). Those wanting to camp, Friday or Saturday night or both, can camp free at the Whitewater Park located at 388 River Drive in Wausau. Camping is basically a free-for-all on the grassy area. Cars can be driven right up to your selected patch of turf, small campers allowed, and maybe one or two larger campers if necessary. No hookups, but they have flush toilets and outdoor showers. Sunday several of us are signed up for the whitewater classes, and as far as I know they still have spots available. If you don't want to participate it's still tons of fun to watch. I didn't realize that it's Father's Day that Sunday; hopefully that won't limit the participation! Oh - I should mention - there is a Farmer's Market Saturday morning next to the campground for anyone interested in that. There are a couple of picnic pavilions in the campground, but no designated campsites with picnic tables or anything. So bring chairs and whatever else you need to make your camping experience the best it can be!

Rob is not coming after all but Mary Lynn and I are heading over later today (Friday). Can you send the campground location? Anyone else coming tonight?

Kathy

Also for the Wausau Weekend Warriors, I have 3 kayaks that I am bringing and can fit them all in my sedan, but then would not be able to have any room for camping stuff, gear, ect. I would like to avoid bringing 2 vehiles. Just wondering if anyone have any extra space for an extra 10ft rec boat? We just plan on using it on Sat.

Hey Sonia, just a few questions. are we camping out at Oakpark? Or is it an area that is right next to the white waterpark?

Are we going to be doing barbecue at Bill‘s or going out to eat?

I’m assuming on Monday morning we’re on our own for breakfast correct?

Just an FYI, my brother Dave and I are going to be doing the Whitewater rafting portion and are registered. Richard will be joining us for the kayaking portion on Saturday and will be camping as well.

Hey Sonia! Oops missed the registering part. Dale and I are coming. He won't be kayaking but we are bringing the lil RV to camp. I'm still signed up to paddle although I'm waffling just a bit. So we're in!

Almost Time!!! I have only 4 official registrants: Adam Shiel, Alex Cornish, Roxana Reitz and Kathy O' Leary. I think the following people are also attending: Rob Zich, Mary Lynn Skutley, Sharon Clemins, Ruth Lovejoy +1, Jenny Leithen +2. Also Bill Bertram and Sonia Anderson are committed to attending. If you aren't on this list and are planning on coming, please register or let me know. If you ARE on the list, and don't want to be, let me know that as well. I see the registration info says it starts at 1; not sure how that happened. We are planning on meeting at 12:00 at the Ross launch to drop off boats and shuttle vehicles.

Last post for the day, I promise: some info on the river paddle.

Please let me know if you plan on attending by Friday, June 7. This isn't hard and fast but will really help with planning! Either day or both days are fine, just try to let me know what you think will work for you.

Hi, I’m interested. Wondering if this is going to be a Fri-Sun, or if I can join Sat-Sun?

Registration is open for whitewater classes! Recommend Sunday June 16 either am or pm. Only 16 total spots for each session.

I would be interested in the Wasau weekend as well.

Okay, it's on! I will post more details in a few weeks.

I would be interested in a Wausau weekend.

I am interested in it if I am in town. Still working on all the summer dates.

Yes, yes, yes!! I was able to switch weekends at work, so I can go this weekend!!

Sonia, I am very interested in this weekend. Dale is too, we would love to come camp and do all the things. I'm down for the guided paddle. When I saw it on TV, I immediately added to my bucket list. It all sounds fabulous!
