Need kayakers for open water swim on Sunday, July ...

UPDATE Our registration site is now open to register to swim or to volunteer to kayak. Please consider helping us.

Two Mile Manitou Monster Lake Swim

The volunteer button is at the top of the site.

This is the site for everything. In the top banner, there is a volunteer area. For kayakers, we need two groups. One would patrol the northern (up to 4) and southern ( 2 ) boundaries of the course to discourage motorized craft from entering the course. The other 4 - 5 that we need would be stationed at turns on the course and will be counting the total swimmers going around the designated buoys, perhaps needing to chase people down if they miss the turn.

In addition we will have 8 trained lifeguard (needing kayaks) staff patrolling the course, leading and following the leader and lag swimmers.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer. We appreciate your help.

It appears as this conflicts with a major outing to the Apostle Islands. This is a perfect opportunity for those that only have Sunday availaing or enjoy calmer waters. 😁

I am the Event Director for the 30th Annual Manitou Monster Lake Swim. This open water swim is being held on Lower Long Lake in Chippewa Co on Sunday, July 12, 9 - 11 AM. The course is a 2 mile loop that starts from Morris-Erickson County Park Campground Beach and circles the perimeter of Lower Long Lake, more or less, finishing in the same area.

We are seeking kayakers to patrol the north end of our swim route, as an alert to a swimming event in progress, as well as a couple near the boat launch located near the end of County HWY 145. This is a volunteer opportunity. I am wondering if there might be 6 or so paddlers that would be interested in helping us.

We will have lifeguards in kayaks on the course, as well as "counters" at each turn. We would like to keep all motorized traffic away. We cannot close this part of the lake, just want to make it obvious there are swimmers in the water. We will have a pontoon boat, Dive Team official boat, and a smaller motorized craft for safety.

We will set aside event T-shirts for these volunteers if there is interest. You will also be invited to the post-event lunch buffet at Max's.

Contact me directly at MonsterSwim2021@gmail.com for more information. We will eventually have a volunteer sign up as part of our registration site that can be used for direct signup, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for considering this.
