This event will involve a weekend camp outing and paddling at Herbster Campground on Lake Superior. Participants will be expected to be self sufficient (no meals provided, though we may organize a pot luck meal for Saturday evening).  Trip leaders will arrive early a.m. on Friday July 7 at the Herbster campground to secure tent sites.  Herbster campground has flush toilets and showers as well as limited access to wi-fi.

This event will be open to all members of the club.  The same prerequisite equipment and skills that apply to a social paddle will apply to this event; a boat, a paddle, a pfd, water shoes.  A dry bag for snacks, towel and change of clothes, sun screen is recommended as well as a water bottle.  All paddle outings will take into consideration safety limitations of recreational kayaks so will include paddling shore lines where there is quick and easy egress from the water in the unlikely event of a capsize. There will be no specific itinerary as much is weather dependent but there are protected areas we can paddle if weather keeps us off the big lake.

There will be no formal instruction as that is not the focus of the weekend, but anyone interested in working on skills will very likely have access to instruction as time allows.  There may also be opportunity to safely play in waves off shore near camp where tipping over would not present a danger.  When I camp there it is common to see people playing in the waves in kayaks and inner tubes. Primarily this is a fun weekend of paddling, play, camping and camaraderie and a safe introduction to the beauty of Lake Superior.

Registration and payment is required in advance.  Registration is $40 (this includes 2 nights camping for one OR two adults per tent).  So the event will be limited to 10 TENTS, you may share your tent and split registration cost.  Any funds not used directly for event related expenses will remain in the club accounts.

This is an attempt to establish a new annual event for the club.  So there may be a few wrinkles to work out.  Help make it a success by participating and bringing a sense of adventure!! :)

Ride sharing and/or caravanning is encouraged.  We can work out those details as the date nears and participants are established.
