July 12, Power of Perception Paddle
Author Last Post

At our July 12 paddle at Braun's Bay, we were joined by a group of middle- and high school kids who had limited to zilch paddling experience. It was a lot of fun! They were lead by Dennis Beale, whose organization Power of Perception subsequently sponsored a trip to South Africa for many of the kids. Here's a link to a documentary of that trip: https://youtu.be/ygY6xSJBVfM?si=ktLvoR8N1opxFr5v

Enjoy!

Thanks Mary Lynn

A little update for everyone. I talked with Dennis Beale the leader of the group and the kids will be eating pizza at the park before the paddle. There will be a total of 25 kids and 6 adult leaders.

I plan to pick up the canoes Wed afternoon around 4pm. If everyone paddles we will need 15 canoes. The University has 3 canoe trailers and each trailer holds 6 canoes. If anyone wants to help me pick up canoes or can haul a trailer down, to Half Moon Lake, let me know. The University may also be able to help haul the trailers down so don't worry if you are unable to help.

A heads up that our Wednesday paddle at Braun's Bay will be very special. We will be joined by up to 40 middle and high-school students who may be paddling for the first time. Canoes are being provided by UW-EC, and the event is sponsored by Powers of Perception. The kids will arrive around 5:45. Your help on and off the water would be much appreciated. This is going to be fun!

On Wed July 12 I have volunteered to host Dennis Beale and approximately 40 Middle and High School kids in his Power of Perception program for a paddling experience. https://www.powerofperceptioninc.org/

We will be meeting at the Brauns Bay Pavillion and using the Half Moon Bay Boat Access.

I have lined up canoes with the UWEC Rec Program and will have them at the landing.

I will take care of basic canoe instruction, but would like to have some assistant instructors to help with Safety & Supervision. It would also be nice to have some additional kayaks if there are kids who want to try a kayak for the first time and if you have a kayak and want to bring it that would be great. Please let me know.

The kids will arrive by bus at approximately 5:45pm and Dennis said he will bring something for them to eat quickly so we can be on the water by 6:30 and paddle until 8pm or so.

He also asked if I was interested in feeding them. I initially declined but if there are any club members who want to do a hot dog feed for these kids and are willing to coordinate and manage, I am sure it would be appreciated. There might even be a grocery store willing to donate the food and supplies needed.

If you can help out in any way please send an email to me at jefferythielen@gmail.com Let me know what you would like to help with and if you are able to bring an extra kayak for someone to try.

I will be out of the country from June 12 until July 2 and am trying to make sure everything is set up before I leave.

Thanks for any help you can provide. See you on the water.
